At the ALL IN conference in Montreal, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation Evan Solomon underlined the urgency of this moment. By describing digital sovereignty as “the most pressing policy, democratic issue of our time,” he gave words to a reality we at Micrologic have been championing for more than a decade: Canada needs a robust, reliable and independent digital infrastructure.

This is the defining challenge of the 21st century.

At Micrologic, this conviction translates into concrete action. For over ten years, we have supported major Canadian organizations, including leading banks and key government ministries for whom data security and confidentiality are critical. We have built Canadian expertise in cloud computing, deploying a sovereign cloud exclusively subject to Canadian laws in order to protect our data. This expertise has been recognized internationally, notably by Gartner.

That is why we support the vision behind the new Buy Canadian Policy for information technology: local solutions that generate direct economic benefits for Canadians and for Canada’s digital future. Right now, more than $10 billion leaks out of our economy every year into foreign hands. The federal government still has the power to act by choosing domestic providers and giving Canadian IT talent and businesses the chance to build the next great success story.

The IT sector, and cloud computing in particular, is shaping the global economy. Canada must position itself strategically, just as it once did with the railways and the national highway system, to establish true digital sovereignty. We can no longer settle for good intentions. We must invest in proven, existing solutions.

We must act now to claim our digital sovereignty. We know Canada has the ability to reduce its dependence on global giants and, in doing so, drastically limit the risks of foreign interference. Micrologic has the capacity to deliver now, and we are ready to take on this challenge alongside all those who want Canada’s digital future to belong to Canada.
