Québec City, September 14, 2023 — Micrologic is proud and grateful today to be celebrating 40 years of operation in an ever-growing, ever-changing industry. Joining the celebration were over 400 employees, the company’s IT manufacturing partners and some of its most valued customers. To mark this milestone, Micrologic is taking the opportunity to highlight the tremendous growth it has seen and share its vision to leverage Cirrus, its sovereign cloud solution, to become the leading cloud computing provider in Canada in the next few years.
Micrologic was founded in the Québec City area in 1983, on the heels of Apple first hitting the Canadian market. When the company, then 35 employees strong, was acquired by current president Stéphane Garneau in 2009, it found it needed to make a change if it was to survive the ups and downs of the industry. Micrologic chose to pivot by expanding into new markets, and it has continued to reinvent itself ever since. In less than a decade, it has grown its revenue tenfold and become one of Canada’s largest IT companies, with an expert staff of over 350 professionals. With that strong momentum, its countrywide headcount is expected to pass the 1,000 employee mark within the next five years.
“Our team is honoured to have our partners, employees and customers with us for our 40th anniversary,” says Garneau. “We have come together to not only celebrate a Quebec born company that has shown it can hold its own against the global giants, but also to lay the groundwork for our future as a cloud platform developer. We are proud of how far we’ve come, and we are excited and optimistic about this next chapter for Micrologic. I feel confident to say that our story has only just begun.”
“Trust your gut and take the leap”
When Micrologic president Stéphane Garneau came into the fold, brimming with vision, bold ideas and a deep knowledge of the IT industry, he led a massive shift in the company’s focus, expanding it into one new market after another. “Our industry is always changing,” says Garneau, “which is why it’s important to always roll with the punches and think two or three steps ahead. We wouldn’t be where we are today if we hadn’t taken some risks. They were all around us, and had to trust our gut. We had to take many big, bold leaps. Looking back on it today, I’m especially aware of that.” Garneau recalls that in 2014, when he saw how cloud computing was starting to take off around the world, he made the bet that a homegrown Quebec company had the potential to compete with the world’s biggest names in cloud development. Now, as Micrologic celebrates 40 years in operation, Garneau has unveiled a new four pronged business model that will focus the company’s efforts on cloud computing, data, cybersecurity/networking and artificial intelligence.
Micrologic recently set a $150 million growth plan into action to take the market outside of Quebec by storm, with the valuable support of external investors, such as Desjardins Capital, BDC Capital and Investissement Québec. The company’s sovereign cloud computing solutions make it one of just four officially recognized providers of these kinds of services in North America, which will give Micrologic a great competitive edge moving forward.
